Since this is designed with convection in mind, I assumed there was a chance. However, this thing is mostly copper heat sink inside (it is deceptively heavy, you can one hit kill someone with this thing if you were motivated to). It's a real wacky feeling going from a thermally insulated macbook air to the absolute dead opposite.

I double checked online if this would have an impact, and it was reported that it made no observable difference in performance or fan speed by someone who stress tested it. I put some rubber feet on the bottom and called it a day. I'm debating on putting thermally conductive pads between the chassis and aluminum glorified tablet stands for shits and giggles.
