brilliant piece. you know, it never occurred to me until now that the American hamburger is basically just our version of the British fondness for beef—the British decided to make eating beef a symbol of their national character, which rather goes to show how ridiculous a thing the British national character is. America, being America, adopted a convenience-food form of the British beefeating trope. ~Chara
one wonders how satisfied the beef marketing industry heads felt about their respective national identities' latching so hard and so freely onto this particular food item
