my holiday break resolution is to finish Norco, Citizen Sleeper, and whatever other GOTY contenders i failed to stick with earlier this year

i'm still getting a feel for it but i like it so far. a lot of the plugins even have video games in their use case examples so it's clear i'm in the right place lmao

the main plugins i'm getting a lot of mileage out of so far are Dataview and MetaEdit. open to more suggestions!

i've been playing HYPER DEMON (which is very good) and Sonic Frontiers (which is...a video game)

and also continuing to perfect my Obsidian tech. it's possible i enjoy organizing game data more than actually playing them these days (which i suppose is just the natural evolution post-selling off my physical collection)

i found this Media DB Plugin which is not great, but it's been effective enough to stave off my desire to make my own custom thing (but i still might do that bc i am The Worst)

i submitted a handful of github issues on Media DB Plugin in hopes that some of the rough edges can get smoothed out, but the biggest problem that's not likely to be fixed is that only really works for Steam games

in the meantime i've just been using a metadata template that i fill in manually anytime i want to add a console game or something, but obv that's kind of annoying too. the original dream was to have something i could simply type a game title into and it would do the rest of the work finding release date and all that. still not quite there but i figured some stuff out today that's improved my workflow considerably!

with the addition of the Templater plugin, i'm able to create a new note from a template that prompts me for a handful of data (title, url, release date, cover/banner url) and does all the formatting for me. i don't even have to put the date in the right format, it'll fix that too!
