i've been slowly selling off my physical game collection over the past ~5 years. in the early 2010s i worked at a video game store and as you can probably imagine, i took home a lot of games
i had an inventory app on my phone and meticulously catalogued everything, which was upwards of 700 titles at the peak (at some point i'll have to try and track down some photos of the multiple packed shelves i had across the house)
i think i started working through this process pre-transition, but tbh i think it's gotten easier over time as a result. putting so much sentimental value on these items was def some kind of compensation thing (e.g. would rather have a stack of cartridges i'll never play than buy myself nice clothes or something that materially improves my well-being). it's been a slow process but with each wave of sales, i get a little better at letting go
pictured are some of the last holdouts - games i loved just too much not to keep. most of them will be going up on ebay today, hopefully to folks who will actually give them the play they deserve instead of letting them rot on a shelf
me: i am selling all my physical games. i want nothing on my shelves anymore. i will use this money for important things instead
also me: only $150 for a sealed copy of gex 2? what a steal
