hello, archon of heaven here, wanted to tell you every time you have been about to boil water and had to decide between wasting water by waiting for the tap to run hot, or wasting energy by starting from cold while owning a water heater, you have somehow consistently failed to make the correct decision every time and your karmic debt has become untenable

I let an electric kettle boil the water before putting it in the pot on the gas stove where I needed it, how does that count for this
i think drinking water from hot tap is bad for you anyway (that water is heated and cooled a lot, bacteria loves that shit)
yeah, that's my understanding too. don't drink the hot water from the faucet. that stuff's for washing/bathing.
it's my understanding that 'hot tap water being less sanitary' is a persisting myth based on now-antiquated water heater designs that were not sealed. i mean i'm sure it doesn't exactly help but i don't think people get sick from that anymore (in a functioning system)
i think it's older British systems which have a separate hot and cold tap that are at risk?
Most water is doped with a mild, semi-harmless chlorinating agent to prevent bacteria growth in the tap.
...don't wanna "well actually" this very good post, but now I'm genuinely curious what the total energy cost of boiling water-heater-heated water is vs. boiling tap-temp water 🤔
My initial guess would be that the difference is small, and mostly determined by how frequently you use hot water (and thus how long it needs to hold water at high temp for - the more frequent, the less energy usage per unit of water) and the heating methods used for boiling vs. water-heater (stovetop vs. electric kettle, electric vs. gas if not a kettle, source of energy if electric, and so on) - in the right circumstances, it might be possible for tap-temp to be more efficient
Also, what would running the tap until it goes from lukewarm to cold - for the flavor, of course, it just doesn't taste right if you don't put as much energy as possible into it - count as?
