Cool. Great. Fantastic. That's only two Stormcast armies I have almost completely obliterated from the 'ever-evolving meta' that is a game designed increasingly to churn.

Fuck it. No more GW toys. An entire Stormcast range should have a fucking shelf life of more than six years, lord almighty.

Nobody's saying that GW should infinitely produce every miniature they've ever made, you dunces. People realize that some of these retired miniatures are getting updated sculpts, yes. But there's a right way to go about this, and This Ain't It. Oh, you play Beasts of Chaos in Age of Sigmar? No you don't. Buy an Old World rulebook. You had a Sacrosant Chamber army? Fuck you. Retired. "yOu cAN pLaY tHeM aT hOmE WiTH yOuR fRiENdS" isn't the same as being able to play with them in-store or at events and you know it, stop being deliberately obtuse. GW stores and events - GW games, period - are the only game in town for some gaming groups because insular nerds won't play anything else. It's like trying to get someone to play something other than D&D. Good luck.

You silly pillocks had better get ready to be fucking churned over and over, as hard as GW can, at a rate that'll make Magic card collections look like pocket change. Stop gagging on Space Marine boots.

basically 'standard' in MTG is the last year or so of released cards and as new sets come out, old sets 'rotate out', entering a broader format. on a design level this lets them design around a smaller pool of cards and on a financial level uhhh fuck you buy more cards, worm

Jesus, stormcast? Those are the backbone of more than a few armies.

…and was the only reason I had enough stuff for a full stormcast army if I ever actually got my stuff to the table.

There’s a reason I’ve been looking a lot harder at battletech lately lol

On top of that, the Sacrosanct miniatures were the starter army in the 2nd Edition box, less than six years old, so a fuckin' HUGE number of people's collections literally began with those miniatures.

now nope!! fuck you!! buy the new ones!!!!!! :)

i think the thing that hangs me up is like- they've demonstrated they can do this better and also that they can just...play nicer or even just communicate nicer. i am less torn up personally about beastmen (and you will not get me to shed a single tear for the ""savage orks"") but like...sternguard veterans just got a new box, y'know? jump assault intercessors & assault-squad firstborn are not perfect 1:1 but they're close.

it feels like they realised they wanted to move away from sigmarines and then got too excited about replacing them that they didn't actually announce anything to replace them first. like i can see why someone in james's workshop would think that this is the "proper" thing to do, let people know in advance so they're not "buying models that are going to become obsolete," but like- you're not supposed to just tell people they're losing things with no offer of anything else? like you said, these aren't old models, it's not like when you're killing off swathes of finecast in 40k

by the same token, i'm deeply surprised at how many people are invest in stormcast. i always deeply remember them being the butt of every joke, the "sigmarines." i'm just...i suppose it's "surprised" at how visceral the reaction is? i always figured people got into other things when they went to aos, i guess

One of the reasons behind it being such a kick in the giblets this time around is that the Sacrosanct were literally the starter box army for Stormcast in second edition, so a lot of people's entire collections began around that army - and, of course, expanding it with other miniatures in the Sacrosanct range like the Dracolines and Evocators and, and, and... So they aren't just removing one segment of the greater Stormcast range, they're literally nuking a huge swathe of players' first armies. It's some bullshit.

i will say that this is context i did not have :v i have not paid any attention to aos (it's just not my style) and so i was staring at the models going away and a lot of them are especially not our jam - knowing that this was many people's way into the hobby is a different shape
