I've been learning Japanese for about half an hour each day with Duolingo and the most I can manage to say at the moment is the woefully unhelpful, "Sorerawa watashino akai kooto desu ka?"

At one point, I had serious trouble sleeping and this is probably long enough ago that Japanese culture was still somewhere between a fun novelty and "probably what you'll need to get along with your future boss." Flipping channels, I hit a PBS show teaching Japanese. Ah-ha, I'll learn a new language!
I learned, precisely, *neko ga (ar)imasu." But that (the cat) is neither here nor there, so...
And yes. They must be.
