people keep talking about the experience of discovering that programming games always just boils down to a loop every frame of what inputs are happening and what to change because of it. and yeah its wild what's up with that. i first discovered that when playing Petit Computer for the Nintendo 3DS; which is an app where you could program your 3ds in a kind of BASIC by hitting each character individually with your stylus to type, very little documentation, and even less tutorials. when I finally figured out how to make a simple game in which a little genie man moved around and picked up a key to go through the door i was ecstatic. however i was also convinced i was doing something weird by just having an infinite GOTO loop containing shit like IF btn(left) spritetrans(0,0,-1). that had to be jank that just happened to work, probably not how they do it on the big important stuff. now to be fair you can forgive me for thinking this because i was using the jankiest IDE and language available to me but its wild that deep down that is just how it works
