i dont think i agree with the framing here, synthesizer is an insanely broad term that has had massive evolutions involving fundamentally different processes of sound creation since its introduction. synth isnt really something you can pin down to one thing like electric guitar. and i would argue DAWs or the internet have had bigger relative impacts on recorded music due to the complete opening of music production and distribution to anyone who has a computer or a phone or whatever cause shit got realllll fucking weird after that lol
using the electric guitar here mostly as shorthand for electric instruments and amplification in general. i was considering the internet but i thought it didn't really feel enough like a change in the tools available or the sounds that were possible to make, just a change in accessibility and creativity. "biggest change in music" is a not great choice of words on my part
no DAWs are absolutely on the level of electric and then electronic instruments in terms of tools. you can do so much with vsts and so much with editing that is straight up impossible to achieve any other way. DAWs and the internet deserve a spot up there
i guess that's true i wasn't really thinking about the differences between synths and digital instruments but now that you point it out they are pretty notably different
i am curious now if you know anything that really shows off that difference well
the fingerprints are on essentailly everything since their adoption, but for displaying it clearly, hyperpop, especially of the pc music/bublegum bass variety. the medium is generally as explicitly the message as it can be with pc music. pc music vol 1 and 2. SOPHIE and especially the EP product. for hearing a DAW, undiscovered colors by the flashbulb. i would call that DAW music. 1000 gecs
yeah. product by sophie. final answer
fuck. oil of every pearls un insides by sophie too. god. just. no one has come even close to touching sophie in terms of sound design. its so fucking good lol
When i get home from work you know its gonna be files o clock!!1!
Also you know what I wish there was more of. Live play of the electronic and digital focused stuff. I know there are live synth shows that are very cool and DJs that do sweet stuff and death grips among others does the thing where the samples are hitched to an electronic drum pad and played live but still. Also possible this already exists but i haven't been exposed to it in great enough number. I just wanna see electronic or digital instrument buskers i think that'd be neato
there is lots of this. ill do an actual response after work
actually. on second read. i dont understand what u mean. theres so many bands and artists that play electronic instruments live. lots of buskers with their little synths n shit
i dont know what i mean either to be honest with you im just thinking aloud. ive also never seen a synth busker but then again i dont live near a big city. in conclusion the vibes are different for unclear and confusing reasons sorry
