if, like me, you were wondering about their display tech, the founder showed up on hacker news and answered some questions about it. it's reflective LCD

i do wish i could get this in anything other than a $730 android tablet with a mediatek chip. amber backlight with a constant-current driver (has anyone put one in a mobile device before?) seems like the perfect thing for reading and that doesn't even need 60hz. Kindle can't touch this thing (except maybe in battery life)

It's at the point now where I just sigh when I see one of these announced, I have been watching very exciting rlcd tablets get announced for global release Real Cheap Real Soon (then end up $600, China only, and dragging a 10 year old SOC) for at least 2 years and I think i am specifically being taunted

imo there needs to be volume manufacturing of RLCD displays and outdoor signage should be the first customer, so we can have large panel workflows in manufacturing out the starting gate; from then, subdividing to laptop, tablet and phone sizes is a matter of process engineering, not retooling a whole factory
