  • have more athletes across all sports wear those skintight outfits covered in rhinestones that the female gymnasts and trampoliners wear. especially the men.
  • have a bunch of girls with jaw harps stand by the trampoliners to do the boioioioing sound effects
  • let women and nonbinary people go on the pommel horse!!!!!
  • replace all horses in the equestrian stuff with pommel horses
  • make extreme pogo olympic
  • stop playing national anthems and instead play the gold medalist's fav song when they're on the podium. for team sports, play anime openings of an appropriate sports anime for each team. (ok this one might be one of the obvious improvements but I wanted to include it just to be sure)
  • make basketweaving and synchronized basketweaving into sports and make them olympic
  • the mascot... cannot be further improved, she is perfect. but def have her show up at random times more often.

oh yeah that would be very good also. another thing I would accept would be if they had hobby horses, you know, those little plushie horse heads on sticks. all of these options are vastly, vastly superior to what is currently the norm.

99%invisible taught us recently that they had poems and architecture as an olympic discipline until the mid-fourties (unrelated to the world wars), so we can definitely get less hardcore sporty disciplines again!

Personally I'd like to randomly select five people from a pool of volunteers who must be non-athletes. If you've practiced for more than 10 hours or are particularly fit already, you're disqualified from the pool. They both get to enjoy participating and to set some expectations so you can go "ohhh, I see! I couldn't do that!"

oh, very interesting! yeah I def enjoy the more offbeat aspects and I'm all for adding more diverse stuff to the games.

as for the non-athletes, that would be fun to see, but only for sports that aren't likely to hurt people when you don't know how to fall or generally be safe as an untrained person. I was watching some of the trampoliners "fail" today and if it had been me failing those stunts, I would have broken several ankles and neck vertebrae. surfing in Tahiti would instantly kill me probably. archery... if I could manage to fly an arrow for a significant distance, the audience would be in danger......poems or basketweaving however, sign me up!

(guy watching the poems discipline on TV, it's just various people at tables) "Oh COME ON! I could write better than that! Here, WATCH THIS!

I run
very fast
Hurdle?
Jump it
nbd
suckit usain"

(his girlfriend nods and drinks from her straw to not comment on the complete lack of everything)

There are 2 commenters in my fav dynamic: one who knows nothing (usually comments football games) and one who is a seasoned poet. She explains to the clueless commenter the difference between what a "syllable" is in japanese vs english while a dramatic close-up slomo shot plays of 2 athletes writing the final lines of their poems. One of them slams their pen down on the table with photogenic emotion, while the other puts it down gracefully without batting an eye. The audience screams in ecstasy. Cut to a shot of the mascot on their knees crying because the sheer beauty of the moment overwhelmed them.
