good morning, friends of eggbug! what was your favorite song you listened to in the last week? what did it make you feel? if you had to shoot me or the fake who looks like me and that song was playing, would you pull the trigger? could you be sure you made the right choice? can any of us in this world ever be sure about whether or not we are taking the correct path? who were the musicians on that song you picked? what was important to them in life? what’s important to you in life? where did those alien shapeshifter eggs come from, anyway?

my pick this week is freddie hubbard’s “uncle albert/admiral halsey” off of first light (1971)! i love some of the instrumentation on this and the fun shifts as it moves through the medley. (afaik this was originally a paul/linda mccartney song)

edit: also picking a b-side this week: francoise hardy's "viens" off of la question (1971)

edit edit: okay picking two b-sides because honey & soul has another single out today in advance of their debut album coming sometime next month

"communication" by COLTEMONIKHA (YouTube, Spotify). My past month or so of music listening I feel has been an assortment of 2000s techno/pop mixed in with everything else I've been listening to prior. Lots of stuff that feels very vibrant to me and I love it.

i absolutely love GOJII's when i look at u. i listened to it 24 times. it makes me feel alive. i would pull the trigger. i would kill the imposter, as this song aligns me with the universe. i would be 100% sure of it. yes, we can be sure we're taking the right path, but only when listening to vibing music. the musicians on the song were GOJII and i think just GOJII. helping others is important to me. and last i actually don't know this one.

favourite track of the week is "Eek", the intro track to the mellow 1997 post-rock album "II" by The Sonora Pine. all things considered a nice album and a great recommendation given to me by a friend, but the intro track is a big step above the rest to me personally. https://open.spotify.com/track/3UgUezo07FlqaM3bbumHJs?si=6ea27f14baba4974

b-side bonus tracks! ive listened to a Lot of good music this week.

want to bring a little attention to two fairly unknown albums i stumbled across, the first being the short 2023 post-rock/punk EP "Knocknarea" by Maruja. while i feel it could definitely have been better executed, its a very interesting fusion of some of the more technical aspects of post-rock, jazz instrumentation, and punk vocals and breakdowns. im choosing the intro track "Thunder" to bring to show-and-tell. https://open.spotify.com/track/2iwkWhg6aMlyT4P2OLbTkb?si=8f72ddc978da43da

the second album i wanna talk about is the beautiful dreamy 2021 ambient post-rock album "annebolyn" by Argo Nuff. a more modern clearly dreampop inspired release, i feel it tackles post-rock in a new way that feels removed from the late 90s-mid 00s post-rock movement, which is such a breath of fresh air to me. choosing to link "as that kid flew..." from the deluxe version of the album, which divides the two 20+ minute long tracks of the album into much shorter tracks for easier listening. https://open.spotify.com/track/02ln9hrSVvLDRXmyoj2WPz?si=b6f6a309213849c1
