I work helpdesk and hear those types of comments from both end users and my colleagues entirely too often.
That said, what's the issue?
I also work in IT and definitely just have to smile and nod when users or coworkers start going off.
There's no real issue, the battery in my 10 year old MacBook Pro was bulging (was getting hard to click the trackpad haha), so I removed it. I had planned on running it without the battery while I waited for my new battery to arrive but the processor would severely underclock itself with the battery removed. I received my new battery today and just installed it and everything is back to normal.
