This is because, if you have a remote learning day instead of cancelling classes, you don't have to make up that day at the end of the year. Lots of districts in the state already do this, but mine started planning for it...yesterday, basically. They had mentioned 2 months ago this would be the plan if we had more than 3 snow days, and then did nothing until yesterday. This went about as well as one might expect, and after ruining everyone's day by trying to have a normal school day alongside constant updates on how to set up a remote learning environment, the district scrapped the remote learning plan around 1:30 PM.

The straw that broke the camel's back appears to be a panicked email from a teacher with the subject "WHAT COUNTS AS PROOF-OF-LIFE FOR REMOTE LEARNING?" (they meant 'attendance' but...lol. lmao.)
