wow I had no idea that Reinhardt paintings were so delicate!

and also, I'm very peeved to once again far after I actually studied art history discover a woman whose work I enjoy way more than most of her more famous contemporaries lol (sorry willem, I'm a lesbian)

The painter-narrator of Kurt Vonnegut's Bluebeard is presumably inspired by Ad Reinhardt; his most famous piece for most of his career is an abstract impressionist sextych that is completely blue, painted with a paint that (unexpectedly) flakes completely off the canvas and causes such public shame that he becomes a recluse.

I really need to reread Bluebeard now that I've got, like, an art history degree lol. I remember liking it a lot, and the premise of "abstract artist whose work is all destroyed because a kinda shitty paint manufacturer sold everyone a bum product" is so juicy.
