Influence

Regardless of Force alignment, Atris still hates the Exile. As for the remainder of the Jedi Council, they take a swing at destroying the Exile, whom they see as an abominable wound in the Force. In this eventuality, the Exile who brings together the surviving Jedi Masters is the Exile they get the drop on in a cutscene. Kreia steps in, killing the Masters on the Exile's behalf.

The Exile who instead picks off the Jedi Masters - or at least goads Vrook, the dogmatic one, - talks with Kreia, instead. She explains their status as a void in the Force that draws in and feeds off other Force-sensitive people. Yet, every companion involved seems to be stronger for this relationship, unlike Nihilus' enervated followers. The Exile's companions attest to following their leader of their own will, except for occasional acts in heightened situations, much like the rest of us.

The Exile no longer fits into the Republic that they committed war crimes for. Now they are caught up in Kreia's scheme to destroy the medium through which trauma resonates: the Force itself. And they carry in their orbit the entire future prospects of the Jedi Order. They find their people even as they seek after the Order that was, step by step, until realizing that there is nothing left.

Like the Jedi themselves, the Republic is shown to the Exile in an ambivalent light. As it rebuilds, it is revealed to be slow and corrupt. Telos Station depends on a mega-corporation which exploits its workers and hires shitty mercenaries to rebuild a bombed-out world. One of their logistics droids has escaped and founded a criminal empire, out of sheer desperation to keep it all afloat.

And then there is Malachor, where Jedi are broken, which the Exile cannot move on from. Until they reject the belief that brought them to Malachor - belief in Revan, belief in the Republic, belief in their duty, - they never will.

In TSL, there is a horrific possibility of the Exile slipping deeply into self-righteousness, despair, or hatred - and of encouraging their companions to fall into similar delusions. In the game's dark side ending, the Exile takes Kreia's place, both as a teacher, and as one of the Sith Lords who grace the main menu of TSL. Rather than destroy Malachor, this Exile seems to view it as a tool in their war of conversion, as Revan intended.
