(edit: it interpreted the "1970." as a numbered list for some reason)
the overflow in 2038 happens when the signed 32-bit integer count overflows, so it'll wrap around back to -2^31 seconds before 1970, which is during december 13, 1901. if only time_t had always been unsigned, then we would have been OK until 2106
