Does anyone else feel like it's weird and bad that the iPhone camera app built in QR code scanner won't just display plain text from a QR code?
Feels like a weird erosion of capabilities...

like it just sends you to a web search... could you not like just display the text or put it in notes at least?

funny story, there are actually two builtin QR code readers on iOS, and for some reason the second one is well-hidden. go to Settings > Control Center, and add "Code Scanner" to the control center layout. then swipe down into control center and click the icon to go into the dedicated QR scanner app. this one gives you the option to copy text as well as search the web. from a paranoia standpoint it's also nice because it's not part of the general camera app, so you can't accidentally take/send photos while trying to open a menu

hm, it's the same on Android where there's technically a system action for "here's text, you can edit it or put it into a share sheet" (it shows up when you copy and then tap on the toast that shows what you copied)
