hey is there a way i could express quickly that i wanted a chord played just with the root and fifth? both "E" and "Em" imply a third, which i don't want

I'm just writing chord notes above a melody line - obv in actual notation i can be much more specific
isn't that just a power chord effectively? sometimes I see that as like E^5
E5, or E/5 for the inverted voicing ( g-c rather than c-g )
