SUCCESS! The film is called "We Might Hurt Each Other", previously titled "PENSIVE". Its Lithuanian title is "Rupintojelis"

how does one find out about things like this? do you follow someone who's posting about interesting lithuanian film?

for my sins i read bloody disgusting a lot, a horror blog with one of the worst comment sections on the internet. i'm also the sort of person who really likes poking around on letterboxd and imdb and wikipedia, going "oh that director i liked is making a movie with this other person i like" or clicking "upcoming projects" etc.

i think i also get a lot of pleasure from having a pretty good idea of what's coming out/being made, which is to say that - more than googling "lithuanian film??" - i've sort of slowly lowered myself on a rope into the echoey subterranean chamber of What's Being Made and i'm nearly constantly being surprised and delighted by what weird insect has started biting me

one of my favourite horror teams right now are the Adams family (i know) - married couple Toby and John and their two children Lulu and Zelda. they made a film in 2021 called Hellbender, which is a sort-of-folk-horror, sort-of-coming-of-age, very witchy film about a teenager living in the woods whose parents have Very Specific Ideas. as a family of filmmakers they're firing on all cylinders and it is so much fun to watch these four people figure out the way they want to make movies together.

they JUST screened a new film at Fantasia called Where The Devil Roams, which as far as I can tell is about a family of macabre carnival sideshow performers who have made an extremely weird (and physically very gross) deal with the devil. it seems like it's a period piece (set just after WW1) and i'm very excited to see it
