One of those rare movies that needs to be 45 minutes longer and also they need to totally cut about 30 minutes of what they have
truly felt like it was just a couple of degrees off from being good but draw those lines out even a bit and there's a big gap between where they end up
i THINK (and this is kind of back-of-the-envelope stuff that i don't know i'd defend if i was actually rewriting the thing) that i would immediately cut most of the delroy backstory, the entire frame-story opening, and all of the b+w documentary footage and then see what room that gave me to dial in to the other stuff
i only have vague memories of the plot (caught this when it was doing festival rounds in aus) but yeah that sounds about right. i do think though that it's always icky when australians have this weird reverence for american culture/media and are obsessed with its aesthetics but dont have much to say about it beyond that.
