there are a lot of reasons why alien romulus is bad but i'm especially mad that it's not scary and the alien is (somehow) wildly underused. if you've made a movie where the xenomorph isn't scary you have fucked up

I am determined to make my own edit to see how many annoyances I can snip out
it's tough because i actually don't think there's a lot of meat on it! the silent facehugger room is all setup and no punchline, the romulus itself is a series of essentially unconnected rooms with no connective tissue, material or thematic - the best sequence is the water room which works because it has a clear escalation of horror beats and a real sense of "inside/outside" and how the room connects to the lab, but that kind of staging doesn't appear anywhere else. maddening
