given that salem's lot is in maine and derry is in maine and castle rock is in maine, is there ever any acknowledgement within the fiction that maine is, for some reason, fucked up? is this a dark tower thing?
I have come back to you as I left: a fool.

i’d say it’s a classic “you gotta write about what you know” deal and BOY. does he know Maine.
as a lifelong* maine resident i can say with a fairly significant degree of confidence that maine is, in fact, fucked up for a variety of reasons
*one of them is that despite having lived here continuously since my parents moved when i was two, lots of mainers consider me to be from out of state for some reason
I think you have to eat like a cubic foot of Maine soil within the first 24 hours out of the womb or something
fuck that must be what i did wrong 😔
i mean like the answer is "because stephen king lives there" and um. well, spoilers for the last couple of dark tower books
I can't remember the exact wording, but I think in 11/22/63 he says that Dallas is wrong in the same way that Derry is wrong. So it's not just a Maine thing.
Stephen King, spending any appreciable amount of time in a location: "man, this place is fucked up"
All the interesting things happen there because it's the Maine character (sorry sorry i;m trying to delete this)
