The interesting thing about dumping Neo Geo Pocket Color carts is that unlike, say, Game Boy games or most other carts, the saves aren't stored in some kind of battery-backed Save RAM or whatever. Instead they've got flash and the save data is written directly to the cart itself.
This means any dump you do on a used NGPC cart isn't going to match a "factory new" unused cart or, really, any other cart or dump you encounter. So as I started dumping my carts to check them against No-Intro's database, I found that none matched because these areas at the end of the dump that contain the save are all crazy different. Now, it seems that most brand-new carts just have FF written to every writable portion over and over again, that isn't guaranteed to be the case because there are just some games out there that haven't been dumped in their pristine form. So no one really knows for sure!
I'm going to contact a person who has been doing a bunch of NGPC redumping/verification lately in the No-Intro DAT and see if there's any way that I can help. Also, and this isn't exactly my first choice, but fuck it... I have like eight or nine sealed NGPC games. If any of them haven't already been dumped in their cleanest of clean forms, I might just unwrap mine for the cause or whatever.
I also have some betas, including this copy of Puyo Pop, that don't match either of the two dumps currently out there. I didn't notice any immediate gameplay differences between it and the final carts out there, but who the heck knows.
