Specifically integrating "assistants" into Microsoft for the purpose of scraping guide sites and cannibalizing their traffic seems like it's the primary strategy here and like, the degree to which this is adversarial with what little remains of game sites at this point is.. Well....

This is a whole new level of cryptogameology. Instead of hearing about things from someone's uncle who works at Nintendo, kids are swearing up and down that the Minecraft AI told them you could find Pokemon under a truck you can only get to from a special portal.

this doesn't make any sense

  • minecraft is like 20 years old and wildly popular. it is the most popular thing ever. so there is a metric fuckton of text written about it. how is this supposed to work for a game you haven't released yet

  • a big thing with minecraft is that you don't know the set of objects you can craft, so "how do i craft a sword" is useful approximately once. also it has a recipe book so that's really useful approximately zero times

  • and i guess more generally, something that rattles around in my head every so often: if LLMs take off and it becomes clear that anything you write online is just fodder for them, why would people keep writing about stuff at all
