It's always weird to have ambivalent feelings about a small game - it always seems so much more personal, somehow. Like I said in the video, I enjoyed my time with A Little to the Left! The puzzles tickled my brain in just the right way more often than not, and I think it's a game for neat freaks and neurodivergent folks alike. But I do think that it brushes up against some thematic awkwardness that it didn't mean to and didn't know how to handle so it mostly ignores, and that made me feel really weird about it? And I don't know if that's an unfair position to take or not. I like the game, I'd recommend the game, but I am also kind of flummoxed about what it's ultimately saying and doing.

Anyways, I talked about this in the Patreon post for this video, but I'm interested in doing more shortform stuff like this. I think going months between videos is a real bummer for a whole host of reasons - from a sense of obligation to my patrons to a general desire to see the channel grow, increasing my output has been a big desire of mine. Plus there are a lot of games that come out and simply don't justify a 30 minute critical analysis but do warrant discussion. So I'd really like to (maybe as something of a New Year's resolution?) commit to doing at least one of these a month while still working on longer-form projects.

And don't worry, longer form stuff isn't going away. I didn't make this for nothing. It's just got some script problems that I'm trying to work through without throwing out the whole thing. Or maybe I'll just release it regardless - people seem hungry for content regardless of whether I think it's up to snuff. We'll see.

in reply to @Campster's post:

After finishing A Little To The Left I got my wife Unpacking since that seemed to be her speed of game. She got way more into Unpacking, much less frustrated (except on the 2012 level with the pic of the ex). She's not a compulsive sorting person, just enjoys the sensation of organizing things, so a game where you can arrange a room/home and not just small sets of objects scratched the right itch outside of doing it regularly in our home. :D

I worry about what 2D games out there will be able to capture her like Unpacking.
