I am so irritated with facebook events and I am even more irritated that other social media platforms either have even worse event-invite-functionality, or NOTHING at all.
we've been doing facebook events to invite folks to our board game days, because that's just the easiest option for us to do that right now, and keeping it as a private event because it has our home address on it, so only people we've directly invited can even see that the event exists.
we figured that duplicating the event would just re-add all the same invitees, who are a mix of my friends, greg's friends, and people who are both. but we just realized that if greg duplicates the event, it drops anyone who is just my friend, and if I do it, it drops anyone who is just greg's friend. so one of us has to manually re-add people every month either way.
facebook also does not have a way to like, create a sub-list of friends and say "invite everyone I've named in this list to this event" (you can create a list, but it can't pull them into an event invite). and you can hit "select all" for the invite list of a previous event... but that also drops people who said they weren't going to the previous one (so like, one of my friends couldn't make it last month, RSVP'd accordingly, and then doesn't show up as being in that list anymore when we created this month's event).
so now I'm just triple checking every time to make sure I haven't accidentally left people off who I would like to have there! which requires me to remember every month who I invited and of those people who is not friends with greg!
anyway! I would love to not use facebook! but every other social media has absolutely no capacity to deal with the idea that people want to meet up with their IRL friends at planned or scheduled events that take place in the physical world!
