I think one of the funniest things I do at work but can't make myself NOT do is that when I have to put in an IT support request, I always end up packing the ticket with info to try to convey that I am not a helpless end user who needs to be told to turn it off and on again.
like for the issue I'm putting in this morning, I really COULD just say "laptop fan making loud buzzing/clicking noise. model is thinkpad x230" and that'd be fine! but NO. I need to add that I've been monitoring the task manager/performance center and there's no correlation between when the buzzing picks up and CPU usage, it happens any time! I need to add that I tried to use compressed air and that didn't help! I need to mention that the issue got slightly better when I put the laptop in battery saver mode, but it didn't go away entirely! they HAVE this info in the records but I am still going to mention that I have had this exact laptop since 2015 so it's probably just old and needs to be replaced! but I need them to understand that I didn't just immediately jump to "broken plz replace" because I know we don't have unlimited laptops lying around in storage!
because for some reason I desperately need the IT guys to know that I am not Susan from reception who tried to use bleach to clean her touchscreen laptop!
