I actually never used G+ (I made an account, hated it immediately, and left). my formative internet community - some game-centric, largely not, but still influential on my own creative process - was the deviantart 2006-2009 complaints forum. the complaints forum was for complaining about EVERYTHING, not like, website-related complaints. the general miserable bastard zone. and it was the bad part of the overall deviantart forums, which every other part of the forum dubbed "the worst part of deviantart" and "don't go there". I thought it was great and I made many friends there who I still keep in touch with now. sometimes mutual complaining is a great way to bond, after all.

It's a shame you didn't like G+. It was my home for a long time and this place feels more like it than any other social media site that I've seen since. I think how it worked was misunderstood and once you embraced the difference, it was a really cool place to find like-minded folks. As someone on there said "Facebook is for people you know and wish you didn't. G+ is for people you don't know and wish you did."
