the DSNY installed compost bins on various streetcorners in my neighborhood, which have an app (?) but that means they have an API, and you know what that means: public data!
the bins are of the bigbelly™ solar™ self-compacting kind, so they seem to report how full they are on a 0-100 scale.
after collecting fullness data for a few days, here's a quick look at the ones near me. you can see them all get emptied by sanitation between 2 and 3am and then start filling back up as people wake up. i have noticed the demand on ours is absurd and it's almost impossible to get to it before it's full, and indeed the near-vertical fill lines would seem to confirm my experience.
this guy phil and i (aka pond water) made an album back in 2018 called i hope you dance out of some of the audio clips we've sent each other over imessage singing covers of our favorite hits.
anyway i bring this up to let you know you should follow him, he's an absolute sicko and also i officiated his and celeste's wedding. that's right, scumbags, i can fill out legal documents.
