So basically any website you go to these days is going to have the same basic layout: a big banner at the top that scrolls with you, a closable message at the bottom about cookies or privacy or whatever, and big blank spaces on the sides. The website in the screenshot (indeed.com) is the worst example I've seen, but this is pretty typical now. This is bad.
Every website is built with the assumption of being displayed on a vertical screen at all times, even the desktop layouts, and in spite of the fact that phones can freely switch between landscape and portrait. It is incredibly frustrating that the amount of information I am allowed to have on my screen is so limited. The modern web feels like using a browser with an infestation of toolbars. Screen resolution has increased massively in the past 2 decades, but all that extra space is being intentionally wasted.
If you absolutely must put stuff that scrolls with you on your website, at least have the decency to put it on the side. It will waste less % of the screen, and it's usually not being used anywahs.
