It's not often that I play a game that makes me giggle when I die, and I don't think I've played a game before that makes that happen in so many levels. I played one level recently that killed me by moving platforms out of the way right before I landed on them, and I just could not be mad about it.
I think the biggest reason for this is because the check pointing is extremely generous. Any power ups you have when you enter a level, or hit a mid point, are saved on death, so you're never in a situation where you die and have a harder time on other attempts. That's just kind game design, and they didn't have to do that, but they did.
There's also a good spread of "gimmick makes the level hard", and "gimmick makes the level free". With the free levels being nice breathers between the ones you have to put effort into.
Every single level has some silly gimmick btw. Each level is a joke, and (so far (I'm about 50% of the way through the game)) every single one has been unique. That's legitimately super impressive.
