a bit outdated but afaik the best way is to make separate shortcuts with the --profile option. chromium has significantly better support for profiles if you really want good UX tho

oh that is one way to do this too! running gui apps, especially with wayland and audio systems tends to be a bit annoying, but it seems like there is a tool for exactly that. another way to do this is using multiple sessions. my knowledge is a bit outdated because the last time i used multi-user systems with more than one physical user is years ago but at least you used to be able to switch back to the login screen with CTRL+ALT+F(something) and log in as another user. eg if your login manager runs on C+A+F1 and when you log in you get to C+A+F2, you can switch (pun intended) back to C+A+F1 and launch another session on C+A+F3

also, if thats your jam, you can use nix with home-manager (even on non-nixos systems (also pun intended)) to manage your user account! you can just share configuration in nix files instead of having to set up everything in every user account
