does anyone know why my controller would just randomly stop working for like 5 seconds before disconnecting and reconnecting suddenly. is the USB panel not getting enough power? is my 500w PSU not strong enough to play games and supply power to the controller at the same time

i was hoping changing to the "balanced" power plan would fix this, but i guess not...

btw, the light on the controller stays on while it does this. also sometimes it disconnects and reconnects so quickly that windows only plays the "device disconnected" sound

another detail is that this only happens when emulating stuff, so that's why i assume it's some kinda power issue. like, maybe the power draw from emulating PS3/switch and listening to a video and using a USB device makes the front panel on my PC not get the power it needs

but if it was the front panel not getting enough power, surely the audio jack on it would also mess up??? or at least, sound would be interrupted?

man.

balanced should be fine! i fell into that trap years ago since "performance" implies, yknow, "better" but it actually just makes your rig ridiculously inefficient and prone to crashes if not used for specific purposes. it's more for high high-end development/art workstations, not gaming.

in reply to @jestergal's post:

ah jeez im sorry. is it just the controller? if any connected device does it, im guessing the panel itself might be fucky.

the only other solution i can think of is going into device manager and checking your HID-compliant devices. if you have like, dozens of them, you could try disabling a few. i had issues once where my controller had a life of its own and it turned out all those "devices" were separate logs that interfered.
