many of you are chosting sentiments like "i might move to cohost if tumblr gets worse/died." i would like to offer perspective.

  • tumblr CEO and his moderation team did nothing about a year long hate campaign by terfs targeting a trans woman

  • instead the tumblr CEO insta-banned the trans woman for posting an "i hope you shit pant" cartoonish non-threat while accounts that genuinely threatened death to the trans woman are still active.

  • rather than investigating the issue when presented to him, the tumblr CEO shitted his pant and tried to post through it rather than respond with any level of professionalism. this is an executive. he's not supposed to behave like users on professional matters like this.

  • used his queer workforce as a shield despite the fact he is underpaying and exploiting that same queer workforce (also who in their right fucking minds walks up to their cishet male boss-of-all-bosses and says "um this is transphobic actually" also also queer people aren't a fuckin monolith but he treats us as such)

  • he's now instabanned more trans ppl for calling him thin-skinned. trans people are being legislated out of existence and chronically harassed on the website he owns, and the guy is responding more harshly to backlash directed at him than to chronic harassment his users are victims of. in that sense, he's using his power as CEO to protect himself more than he protects users.

If you think it needs to get worse on Tumblr before you consider leaving..... i wish you luck.

Cohost, your alternative:

in reply to @hootOS's post:

there are people i haven't talked to in a few months to a year because i left twitter, but it was decidedly worth it. the interactions i've had on this site are much more valuable in terms of information, education and compassion, and the people i left behind will be fine anyways.

sometimes ya just gotta go your own way.
