Been thinking about this post and the related comments for a while. Tbh, I think negative attitudes towards more feminine/bishounen male characters partially stem from misogyny. The Onceler is associated with "cringey Tumblr fangirls". Yaoi/BL is largely perceived as a genre that is solely enjoyed by women. When I got into Gundam 10 years ago, some fans were still disparaging 00's more bishounen character design, and plenty of people bought into the theory that those design choices were made to cater to women.
Idk, I might be reaching, I didnβt sleep well last night, and I know that there are other factors (i.e. homophobia) that play into those attitudes. Hopefully my thoughts make sense on some level lmao
