anyway i'm actually writing the Thoughts On Mastodon post for real. already at 1k words and 6 footnotes and i'm not even out of the introduction. might be a bit until it's done.
some of the footnotes would work better as Asides so i'm genuinely considering writing an article theme that lets me use them that way.
pre-empting the actual post with a quick note (that is also part of the post):
i have a lot of problems with mastodon as a product and organization, but i want mastodon to succeed and thrive. more alternative social networks is objectively good. any imagined or assumed Beef between cohost/anti software software club and mastodon is either non-existent or one-sided.
as we have said many many times before and will continue saying forever, our goal is not to Destroy or Replace any other platforms. we don't want to dominate the space. cohost is not for everyone and we don't really want to be for everyone. if cohost doesn't work for you, that's totally OK! we just want to make a sustainable business that can keep paying our rent, following the ideals and values that we have. that's it! it's not that deep! alternative social media is not a zero-sum game!
