another week, another patch notes!

jae’s back from their first bit of high holidays time off and getting back into doing invisible Business things. they ran new financials for our member meeting today and will be publishing an updated financial update for everyone to read tomorrow! speaking of which, have you considered subscribing to cohost Plus!?

aidan’s design system refactor means that a whole bunch of views that were previously Programmer UI are getting redone to look a lot nicer. the first wave of that is live today!

NEW

• complete design pass on the settings page
  • it looks great! thanks aidan and colin!
  • you’re welcome jae!
  • this work is being done in advance of us adding Even More Settings so that we’ve got a better, somewhat less messy canvas to work with
• we have a status page now
  • visit https://status.cohost.org for up to date information on if the site is busted or not
  • currently, it’ll update automatically if the site becomes unreachable or if our internal latency goes above a certain threshold. we’ll be adding more (including visible latency numbers) at some point
  • we’ll also be using this to announce maintenance windows, and will be updating the site soon to display these notices without having to go to a different page
• aside is now in the allowed HTML element list
  • there’s not visual changes here, but it’s a useful element to have for accessibility reasons.
• if you’re redirected to login when trying to visit a page, you’ll be redirected back to that page after logging in

FIXED

• fixed an issue that prevented you from being able to save your profile if you accidentally selected a profile or header image that was too large
• fixed some lingering bugs related to certain tag pages not loading correctly
• updated our session cookie to use rolling expiration
  • instead of being logged out every week, you’ll only be logged out if you don’t visit the site for a week
• fixed an issue where some pages with “static” in the URL would fail to load
  • any user with a username starting with “static” would have been affected by this

coming up on cohost

• jae is still working on tag input rewrite
  • they’ve been gone so much it’s taking a really fucking long time
  • also they have to write and publish the financial update tomorrow
• colin is working on the first thing that needed new settings to begin with: a user-facing UI for deleting pages and adding and removing editors (if you need to do these things right now, we’re still happy to help via e-mail!)
• aidan is working on some large and small UI improvements with the newly refactored design system! Here’s a sneak peek for UI enjoyers (and disco elysium fans)

• she is also answering all your support tickets as usual, just in case you (like her) forgot that’s half your job and got real stressed there for a second about not having a lot to write about in the patch notes
