i keep seeing posts joking about an Anomalous Post bug where there will just be an empty space in the timeline where a post would be.
is that real? are y’all just trying to fuck with me? i have never experienced this bug so i have no idea.

I've seen the Anomaly.
More than once.
It was always gone on the next refresh, tho.
I have seen this. Scrolling up/down fixes it 80% of the time.
I think there's a race condition in the render if visible stuff.
Yeah sometimes there's just a big blank gap right after the 4th post
like this
(ig I should file a bug but idc enough to log onto the Other Site)

I have seen this a few times but I never thought it was anomalous behavior because literally (and I'm using "literally" literally here) every web I've seen designed after 2010 does shit like this all the time.
It's been happening to me pretty often, but I haven't seen any for a month or two...
That's real. I've seen it, and it can hurt you.
(for the purposes of legitimate bug reporting, it cannot hurt you but it does exist)
Ive seen something like that but it didnt read as a bug for me, just felt like the website not loading something right away.
I saw the big stretch of nothing while cohost was having issues on Saturday, but not any other time.
Yeah, I managed to reproduce this just now and noticed that it's just not done loading. As you scroll down it'll make calls to https://cohost.org/api/v1/trpc/posts.isLiked and https://cohost.org/api/v1/trpc/users.displayPrefs,projects.listEditedProjects,posts.isLiked and others, and usually they return really quick. But sometimes there are network issues where they don't - and it looks like maybe the space gets reserved for the posts anyways until they come back? But if it takes 10-20 seconds, you can think the page just stopped loading.
I think the issue I was describing was just a network hiccup, and not the "Post hole" issues others are seeing.
It's real! Generally waiting or scrolling up/down the TL a few posts makes it load in (there's always a real post in the "post hole", it's never just a gap). Never occurred to me to report since I figured it was just weird loading.
it's only happened to me personally on mobile & only after i've interacted with a post (not just a like but reblogged it or gone to the comments) then gone back to the tl & it usually fixes itself with a bit of jiggling
It's never happened to me personally. (Using Chrome on Windows and Android)
i don't think i've ever seen something like that. i'm using firefox on linux.
I see it, but rarely. My mental model may be wrong, and I'm on Firefox, but it doesn't seem like a post is missing. Rather, it looks like one of two things happens, when returning to the timeline (back command, never going directly to the timeline) from reading a post. Either the timeline will be randomly paged down near the bottom or there'll be gaps between posts. Next time I see it, I'll check to see if it's inspectable in some way.
I've seen it happen quite a few times yeah, sometimes a smaller gap that gets filled/expanded by a single post that seems to just take longer to load? but at least twice I've seen a gap created by a post getting deleted (I assume, since I have been unable to find the post in question both times) and leaving a bit more space than normal between posts. a reload has always fixed the "problem" for me though
I see it, and my experience is an amalgamation of what some others have said.
It only happens to me when I'm on mobile. I use Firefox for android, and it's been happening for as long as I've been actively using cohost, so it doesn't seem to be a specific version of Firefox causing the problem. It only happens when reloading a page, either because I was away from the tab for top long and it unloaded, or when I share a post. I don't think there's ever actually a post missing (I've been checking to see if all the posts I remembered seeing were visible), but I could be wrong.
I had assumed this was a Me Problem, because my phone also has other weird bugs that only seem to affect me (or at least no one mentions them. Hope this is helpful
Had this just happen. It appears to be a rendering issue on the side of the browser. The empty space basically cropping wherever, even in the middle of a post, Usually after some time or centering the empty space on the screen does decide to render the rest. This seems more prevalent over sections that may be taking more draw calls like css, images, animations.
Only ever on mobile (iOS Safari), and I don't remember having seen it for a long time actually. Bit spooky that everybody's talking about it now.
[edit one hour later: okay, literally just now I see the Anomalous Post on desktop for the first time, I want off this ride I'm scared]
