It's honestly such a funny post because it's like, "I just woke up from cryo stasis and I've been put in charge of tumblr! Well here's what I know about how to run a successful social media platform." Like, just total unawareness of what their platform is actually like and what the users they have are like
AGAIN PERSONAL THOUGHTS
i feel like Tumblr Live was the first real indication that they don't really care that much about what their userbase wants, that they want that elusive Influencer Money. this just feels like more in that direction. really wack
I feel like the true evidence of cluelessness isn't what they're doing, it's making that post and just putting out an "hey we're enshittifying the service further" airhorn. Unforced error.
Having just seen literally every social platform step on a rake over the past month, I will now barrel towards the same exact rake, determined to goomba-stomp it with full certainty that this time, it'll be different.
Oh boy, this is the first I have heard of any of this about Tumblr. Do I want to know the context?
My condolences that cohost is rapidly becoming a first website instead of a forth
We heard a8out it, and we were like "oh gog", and then we read the post and it was the most o8livious post their staff has ever m8de. It's really frustr8ing 8ecause we literally went 8ack to Tum8lr after years aw8y and it's not!!!!!!!! Getting any 8etter!!!!!!!! — Vriska
15,000 reblogs and counting, all some form of "#if you fucks take away chronological order im putting anthrax in your mail"
I don't even know what to say anymore, honestly
I know there's probably some insane short-sighted business-driven reason for this happening to so many sites all at once, but it's like a hive mind with brainworms at this point
Was Tumblr feeling lonely? Maybe some jealousy towards Meta and Twitter? They couldn't be happy with existing still?
My reaction was "why the fuck is this a public document and not an internal communication? Posting plans this vague this early, full of this much marketing bullshit, is going to make your entire userbase and everyone watching on the sidelines freak the fuck out" And... so it has! Come on, people, this is not as hard as you're making it.
yeah now that i’ve actually read it, it’s reeeeeeal weird to see as a public document. fascinating decision making going on
