anyway i'm really liking scott pilgrim takes off so far and also i'm really glad basically everyone other than netflix still does weekly release schedules because having everything at once Kinda Sucks actually. i want the anticipation, the discussion periods that come from the breaks between episodes. i want Scott Sunday. instead i feel pressured to watch all 8 episodes in one sitting so i don't get hit by spoilers for shit.

i think the same media can be made to feel extremely important or extremely unimportant, and on the whole, releasing an entire season at once makes it feel unimportant. it's like how a too-low price can make something seem low quality, but the price is time.
God yeah. There's no way I can binge this, I can watch it staggered but then I miss the Event you know?
I remember when a show would span several years of your life... That shit would be impactful! Now you get to the finale and they cant even try to make you nostalgic or emotional or anything because you've been watching this show for a total of 2 days

For the longest time HBO resisted doing the "netflix release" thing specifically because they wanted to keep the watercooler effect going. Lately they've been experimenting with multi-episode drops and I worry that means an end to them caring about that, though.
On the one hand, I agree that it would have been fun to discuss and speculate about the interesting adjustments to the narrative for a week between each episode.
On the other hand, in this case I feel like the all-at-once drop at least staved off the blogs that would have been spoiling the episode 1 surprise all over their thumbnails and headlines the morning after episode 1 came out.
