šŸ› ļø If you haven't yet, please read the introduction and check out the bug tracker to see what we’re working on. Now onto the patch notes!

it’s already been 6 weeks somehow! thank you all for being here, we hope you’re still enjoying your time on cohost. this week we fixed a bunch of bugs, improved our logging, and also made the dashboard FIVE TIMES FASTER THAN IT WAS! here’s a summary:

  • fixed a bug where the notification feed could 500 under a very specific set of circumstances
  • shipped dashboard pagination! we only show you 20 posts (give or take) at a time now, but everything is MUCH FASTER as a result!
    • last week we said pagination ā€œshould help page load times somewhat.ā€ this was a serious underestimation.

  • fixed some bugs around editing and deleting tags
    • we redesigned how posts are structured internally a few weeks before we shipped and jae forgot to update aspects of tags to account for that. this has been fixed now. they’re very sorry it took this long.

on the internal changes front, we completely changed how error pages are handled and generated in advance of friendlier error pages (aidan’s first big code change!)

quick note on infinite scrolling

we think it is evil and will never ship it. that’s all.

coming up on cohost

  • jae’s still working on additional notification types but there’s some complexities they didn’t anticipate which is making it take longer than expected.
  • lightbox / gallery view for post images! you can view them full screen and un-cropped!
    • this should actually ship tomorrow! it’s done but jae doesn’t want to ship a new feature at 5pm.
  • infrastructural improvements in advance of the first big round of moderation tooling. we’re gearing up towards a public announcement which means we need to be able to moderate users we aren’t already friends with.
    • once this is done, we’ll have a testing round where we ask everyone to make the absolute worst posts you can think of so we can ban you.
      • we’re not actually going to do this (probably)
