first off: it's dumb as hell. it's also really fun. everyone's talking about Cubes and Crystals and Chaos and other proper nouns that start with the letter C.
it has the vibes of an """old""" 3d final fantasy game; i'm reminded of the High Budget Jank of XIII and XV1. there's a lot of charm to that after FF7R, which broke away from so many of the existing conventions of a 3d final fantasy that seeing them back again feels nostalgic in a way i wouldn't expect.
the main thing is that i'm excited to play more. i looked at the soundtrack to see who composed on it and some of the inclusions there raised questions for me about the story direction2 and i'm genuinely excited to see where it goes.
in conclusion: Dudes Rock, yes neon is included in that. i'm a feminist.
- yes i realize how silly it is to refer to final fantasy XV, a game which came out in 2016, as Old. however, it was in development for at least a decade and feels like a game transported through time. also, i can't believe square announced Final Fantasy Versus XIII, a spin-off of Final Fantasy XIII, before XIII had even been released! mid-aughts squenix was on some shit.
