Behold! The undisputed king of single-thread performance: the special edition, the final Core i9! The capstone of the Core brand, after 16 years! This truly proves that Intel has the most powerful cores on the market. It achieves this score by clocking up to 6.2 GHz, the fastest clock speed of any desktop chip. At full tilt, it consumes 325 watts of power; the raw heat output requires the largest cooling solutions and best-specced motherboards. Truly a beast of a chip.

In second place, trailing at 98% of the 14900KS's single-core performance: the chip Apple puts in its cheapest laptops. 21 watts

Isn’t it just the magic of tightly integrating all the system components on one pcb? Like it’s a fast cpu to be sure but the handful of cycles saved on each ram access by having them close together really adds up.

it's because this graph is comparing ARM cores with x86 cores and the x86 cores all have the same hardware instruction set whereas the ARM cores don't so it'll never be a 1:1 comparison. graph does not truly prove anything unfortunately except maybe the power scaling of the three intel i9s on display here

i meant work in the physics sense here, hence the differing power consumption, apple lifts more weight using the same power that intel would need to lift one, so to speak. cpus with different instruction sets execute different instructions.
and thus programs have to be structured a little differently compiled for different instruction sets... what im saying is: intel will have to do something to catch up, using ~16x the power is significant

i mean the arm core is literally crunching numbers faster than the x86 core. even when you break it down per-core for power vs. performance (325w for 8 performance and 16 efficiency, passmark 64472 vs. 21w for 4 performance and 4 efficiency, passmark 19532) it's extremely unflattering for Intel, which achieves 3.3x the speed for, looking at reviews, a minimum of 12.3x the power consumption. idk what to tell you

i hate this shit. the desktop computer is becoming a niche product, electricity is more expensive than ever, and the entire industry is responding by building RGB space heaters that aren't even fast. intel and nvidia need to be shut down

apple also need to be forced to open the M series for other manufacturers. having a monopoly on good CPUs is vile

i kind of hope ARM becomes the standard but capital G gamers would probably riot in the streets if they couldn't have their choice between the genshin impact themed GPU and the honkai star rail one.

EDIT: or i guess i mean SOC, or both? computers confuse me man

oh, they learned. it's just that Core generations 12-14 have basically been a stopgap while they do their best to nail down Foveros good enough for desktop use. apparently the Meteor Lake Core Core Ultra laptops (that have Intel's new disaggregated "tile"-based architecture) are quite good
