Audio captured by the CVR before impact recorded nonessential conversation by the flight crew. The first officer (PF) and captain (PM) were heard to react to the GPWS, discussing the origin of the voice samples. The NTSB concluded that the crew violated the sterile cockpit principle, with the caveat that by the time they did so, collision was probably inevitable.
