re: https://cohost.org/xn--hs8h/post/7661933-a-note-on-the-dispos — something i think would be particularly useful to open source is cohost's markdown parser, since it implements the whole kitchen sink in a way i haven't seen in one place before: custom syntax (emoji, mentions); allowing arbitrary HTML and handling it defensively; adapting to different requirements (posts/comments/asks/the several Ages of Posting). i'd certainly love to be able to use it as a starting point for future projects, and it might be helpful for folks building self-hosted archives like that post mentions

i am personally in favor of shipping that bit and i think we’re actually planning on shoving it in the data export

we’re planning to open source the html/static site generator that we’re writing for the exports (they’re shipping with the data files too) and if nothing else it would be in there but we can also look into independently shipping that bit.

but also: it is a fragile beast. i wrote that code. it’s iffy. i don’t think it should be used a reference for anything other than “how to accurately render a cohost post.”

EDIT: i'm realizing on a re-read that this is mostly incomprehensible. i hope you'll forgive that, it's been a long week.
