Never played Kingdom Hearts but wouldn't say the story is incomprehensible. Totally agree with Jae that there are just a lot of proper nouns getting thrown around that could potentially be confusing if you haven't been keeping up.

That being said, if anything, I actually think Death Stranding goes over the top (sometimes) on explaining things. Like laying things out that you could already have pieced together if you were paying attention.

I fully did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did when I first played it, and I'm really excited to see everything that the Director's Cut added/changed (like the knee strike and body slam, can't believe they added those)

I tried it right after my second kid was born and noped out of it after the first encounter with BTs and the baby kept crying through the controller. Stressed me out so much.

He’s much older now so I think I’m ready to try it again. I love the rest of the game a lot, maybe it won’t hurt so hard next time.

interested to see how the ending goes down for you - that game was in my #1 spot for most of the time i spent with it but the last like 5 hours were so miserable i completely flipped

i love MGS and rarely skip a cutscene even in games i don't like, but i was skipping shit left and right at the end of Death Stranding

Oh man, I couldn't agree more! I wouldn't say it was my #1 but I definitely felt it was one of the most interesting and innovative games I've ever played, and I was really down for the cool weird story stuff as well. But then yes, the ending few hours completely bungled that part of it for me. I slogged through to finish it off, but that was a big disappointment to top off what was an otherwise surprisingly enjoyable game.

I wonder if that ”proper noun” shit is an artifact of how Japanese-the-language makes people think about things. I think I’ve only ever seen it in Japanese story-lines (or stuff trying to emulate them).

Or maybe it’s a symptom of having a giant light-novel culture that teaches people to write (sloppily?) like that.

I've been enjoying it haha, it's very Kojima. I'm always amused when I see little things that feel continuous from Policenauts on the PS1, which is the earliest Kojima game I've ever played, all the way to Death Stranding. Man knows what he likes.
