featuring way worse glare on camera than in real life!
I've wanted to own a contemporaneous .beat watch for a while but hadn't seen anything that really met the aesthetics i was looking for while still being in decent condition.
through sheer luck, i found this Unworn In Box for a really reasonable price from a seller in Croatia. I placed the order a few weeks ago and it came in today1. by virtue of being unworn in box, it also came with the yoyo, post-it notes, and weird pen. truly the complete package.
so far: i love it. there's a lot of personality in this movement with the graphics it uses to display what mode you're in, as well as an animation that plays if you hold down the light button for a couple seconds. (i'll try to capture video of this later if i can figure out the glare situation)
one thing that's strange to me is that the .beat clock is completely separate from the main clock. it is possible to have fully incompatible times set b/c you have to set the .beat time on its own. (fortunately, @ticky's great internet-ti.me exists. also the swatch website still shows the team in .beats in the top left??? wild). the watch has a dual-time function; the modern way you'd do this would be to give it local time and your UTC offset; the watch can calculate .beat easily on its own from there; this is how the sensor watch does it, and it's the best way imo.
also one of the functions on here is a countdown timer! it defaults to The Year 2000, and is described in the manual as specifically being a countdown for The Year 2000. it's cute! fortunately you can change the date it's counting down to, because a countdown always showing d000 is not especially useful for me.
also while the neoprene strap is comfortable, it's a nightmare to actually put on. not gonna get a replacement tho b/c its weird design is like half the charm here.

one of my favorite things about older watches that have the box and papers still is seeing the original warranty cards. this one came with the business card of the original retailer in Croatia as well! it fun to see a little bit of the watch's life just through that.
