i think the strategy next time might have to be to mount it on the outside of the car, which is dumb as hell
Is it possibly like some sort of proprietary HDR or colorspace fucky wucky that makes it play back blown out unless you do Special Things to it?
"this is great, and it's cheap! I can just use the car I already have! I might want stickier tires though, and i'll need different wheels to put those on, maybe an impact gun would be handy, stiffer shocks would be good, maybe a miata and oh god no what have I done"
literally came away from today like "hmmmm we should probably get a separate set of wheels and tires for this because we are severely tire-limited right now." the disease is starting.
i am also toying with giving up on attempting to register my technically untitled 2015 jetta and turning into a really fucking stupid Prepared class vehicle. this is the real endless pit
i do highly recommend you check the file out and make sure it's not 10bit, because if it is, you're seeing an 8bit slice of it and an Actual Editor like davinky resolve may be able to pull the highlights. but yeah i don't THINK a Gop Ro does 10bit, but that would be something to look for when trying to replace it with a more capable camera
forgive me for a bad case of "did you try turning it on and off" but i was under the impression that GoPros had an "exposure lock" thing
i assume this is the thing you tried and failed, but on the off chance it might help, i thought i'd mention it
