wednesday!
in case you missed it, our first birthday was last week! thank you all for being here with us.
in team news, this is jess’s last week with us! she’s going to be taking the next few months off to focus on other things. we really appreciate the work she did with us over the last four months.
here’s what’s new:
- released some new eggbug merch! check it out!
- major performance improvements for post rendering
- jae went into some details here. we don’t have Numbers yet but we’re expecting improvements even on pages that don’t render posts.
- posts on the bookmarked tag feed now show the bookmarked tags as bold
- similarly, on single tag pages, that tag is bolded in the tag list
- clicking a tag link from a single post page or a profile page will bring you to the page-specific tag feed
- this one was pretty highly requested, since we had the page-specific tag feed but no easy way to get to it! (other than pinned tags)
- added a credits page
- it’s incredibly rare that we ship a user-facing change no one notices. this was one of them.
- fixed a bug where the bookmarked tag feed was using different display rules than normal tag pages
- we’re now showing shares as long as either:
- OP also used a bookmarked tag OR
- the share is also by OP
- we’re now showing shares as long as either:
- migrated the entire Relationship system (likes, follows, silences, blocks, etc) over to our modern API framework
- removed the invite code field from the registration form
- it was causing a lot of needless confusion and is, at this point, pretty much entirely unnecessary. so it’s gone.
finally, a big week! the relationships migration and post render cache were two very large projects that we’re glad to have done. we’ve now got resources freed up for more Feature Work!
speaking of which, here’s what’s coming up:
- jae: the ability to silence individual posts, hiding them from your feed. also pay-what-you-want cohost plus! is still in progress.
- colin: nearing the end of 2fa
- aidan: UI for 2fa and PWYW cohost plus
- kara: burning tickets at a feverish pace! once the backlog is cleared, we’ll be resuming work on the new community guidelines.
- jess: working on a starter’s guide to HTML and CSS on cohost, going into detail about what’s allowed and what’s not, as well as some Tips And Tricks.
that’s all for this week. thanks for using cohost!
